Well, Here It Goes: My Attempt at Real Life

•September 22, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Summer has ended, I have graduated and ended my summer job, and now am attempting to make a new start in the real world up north; more specifically, Seattle. I’m job searching while getting some quality time with my camera and hoping that I can settle in here. We’ll see how that actually turns out in the next couple of months, but still. Just informing the world of the location change, and leaving you with some recent photo adventures.

Laundry Grunge Photo Shoot

First time shoot with the lovely Liza Brown; even though I had a couple equipment issues, she was a delight to shoot with, and we got some cool shots out of it. Am I enjoying my access to the basements on campus? Why yes, yes I am.

Plenty of dryers!

Lady Gaga-inspired Photo Shoot

•August 21, 2010 • 1 Comment

So my sister messaged me with the idea to do a Lady Gaga-inspired shoot, and how in the world could I say no? Gaga is such a great jumping off point for some unique, colorful, and just slightly crazy photos. And I have to admit, I am in love with how they turned out! Here’s a couple teasers; check out the rest beyond the jump!

Senior Photos With Kaitlyn Sage

•June 1, 2010 • Leave a Comment

The rain held off for the weekend and allowed Kaitlyn and I to go out and shoot her senior photos, something that we’ve been meaning to do since the fall. Like my shoot with Kate, the overcast weather was just perfect; the shots really turned out wonderful, and Kaitlyn was just a pleasure to work with.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Grad Photos!

•June 1, 2010 • Leave a Comment

The rain cleared, and Kate and I were able to go do some grad photos! I love how these turned out; the overcast weather actually made for beautiful lighting and skin tone, and we used parts of Alton Baker that I haven’t ever really used for a photo shoot before.

If anyone else is interested in having grad photos done, you should definitely give me a call!

Fairies of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

Shoot done at South Eugene; they were performing ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and their costumes were too fantastic to pass up a photo session! Here are some of the best shots (let me tell you, editing a pattered background was crazy difficult and painstaking):

‘Beauty Is’ Photo Shoot #3!

•April 25, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Feeling on a roll here; two weekends in a row. Mainly of course because I’m graduating soon, and really want to take advantage of any opportunity to build up my portfolio and play in the studio. Plus these fun shoots are keeping me sane, which is a plus.

Five people came to this one, including the first boy! (See guys, it can work for you too…) Anyway, thanks to Mary Beth, Nathan, and Brooke who came down from Corvallis, and Emily and Sierra who took the time to come by (and also to Jill, who came and hung out and let me take random pictures of her in between.)

Photos are below; for a reminder of the concept, here’s the first and second shoots: http://agehrett.wordpress.com/2010/03/27/beauty-is-photo-shoot/ ; http://agehrett.wordpress.com/2010/04/18/new-beauty-is-photos/

“Beauty Is…” Photo Shoot

•March 27, 2010 • 2 Comments

Today was the first shoot of my “Beauty is…” concept. I wanted the things that make a person feel the most like themselves, that make them feel happiest, most comfortable in their skin, things that feel unique to them. I think anything that falls into that category could be called beauty. The idea was to have people write down a response to “Beauty is…” and then visually portray that idea. I had four people come by for this first shoot, and I’m really happy with the results! I’m already looking forward to the next photo shoot, which will hopefully happen in the coming week.

‘Wizard of Oz’ Photo Shoot

•March 10, 2010 • Leave a Comment

So, I’ve been doing an independent study lighting thing this term, which has basically allowed me to play around with all the lights I want, and play in the studio, and just try new things. This was a shoot I’d been thinking about for a while, and I had based off some sketches I’d done a while back of a modernized, fashion-y ‘Wizard of Oz’ look. So I got some very willing models together (who luckily put up with my crazy ideas and were willing to try out a lot of different things) and we did this shoot a few weeks ago. We were sadly missing our Scarecrow due to scheduling difficulties, but it still ended up being a lot of fun. Here are some of my favorite shots.

The Tin Man

Tin Man Gets a Heart

Zoe was the lovely Tin Man. She even brought an axe, which was a lot of fun to play with. Fun fact: the heart was hastily sewed by me the night before when I realized I had completely spaced finding a suitable prop. Luckily I had an oversized red shirt that I was never going to wear that I didn’t mind cutting up.

Doing the makeup for the Tin Man was especially fun, but at the same time super challenging. The silver stuff I got was… deceptive. It looked like your basic eye makeup, and turned out to be something akin to goop. And silver paint just seemed excessive. However, after playing around and applying an insane amount of the goop and lots of shimmery glitter, I ended up loving the look. A lot.

Also, Zoe brought these beyond awesome glasses that I completely fell in love with. To me, it’s like some assassin-robot with killer fashion sense. I could totally see this in some space-age movie like ‘Blade Runner’ or something. Anyway, definitely my favorite Tin Man outfit of the bunch.
